This blog was created to present our side of the story in dealing with Morrey Nissan of Burnaby on our 2007 Altima 2.5SL lease. Keep in mind that though I tried to be as unbiased as possible, I am still susceptible to prejudice. Although I am confident in describing what exactly had transpired in the process, the narratives are written from my subjective point of view. Please use your discretion to digest and evaluate the information before forming an opinion. It is not my intention to harm the business practice of Morrey Nissan of Burnaby, whilst knowing this is potentially possible as a result of this blog. I am merely exercising my freedom of speech, protesting to them in a peaceful and lawful manner. If this blog presents incorrect information, please let me know and I will correct them accordingly.

Mistake Corrected

I received this good news from Jarret Morrey today:

Hello Kenneth,

I have been successful to a point in getting Nissan to change the paper work on your friend's lease.

They have agreed to change the dates and redo the paper work. I have not heard back as to how they are planning to handle the first payment that already came out of your account.
One of two things will happen. Nissan will either credit back the amount taken and send you a cheque in the mail or just hold the credit in your account and apply it when the 'new' first payment is due. They will be the ones that will dictate what coarse will be chosen.

I will be in touch as soon as I know more.

Jarrett Morrey

Jarret is extremely efficient and kudos to Nissan Canada as well for settling this within a day. Looks like we can "almost" put this ordeal behind us now. However, this collective experience will remain online for all to see. I won't distribute the blog through mass internet media thought, only through word of mouth.

Jarret's Response

Jarret Morrey was supposed to be back today according to the assistant. He promptly sent me an email an hour after he arrived at work:

Hello Kenneth,

I am back in the office as of an hour ago. I have reviewed you emails and would like to talk to you about this.

Please contact me at your convenience.

thank-you

Jarrett Morrey
*Dealership number goes here*

I was at work, so I could only call him during my breaks. During my afternoon break I was able to reach Jarret Morrey on phone.

Jarret was articulate, logical and polite. He was sympathetic and apologized to me many times for what had happened. He admitted that there was a problem with the contract. He believed it was definitely a clerical error, but he was still investigating how it lead to this. He also indicated that my letter did find its way to him and he had called a meeting to discuss this matter with all the staffs involved in the dealership. The staffs involved admitted no wrong and believed it was just our misconception that we felt mistreated. It was a rather pleasant conversation where he did most of the talking.

Jarret even offered to refund the $45 documentation processing fee to compensate for our frustration. I declined the offer and told him that I was not calling him to get more discounts. If that was indeed the standard processing fee across all Nissan dealers, it was only justified that we paid for it. All we wanted is to have the contract corrected according to the terms presented to us.

I think we're in a bit of a bind here. When the contract was signed, we become legally liable . Legally Morrey Nissan of Burnaby and Nissan Canada do not have to do anything for us. Though Jarret promised that he will dispute the contract with the Toronto headquarter, the outcome will be uncertain.

I am sure Morrey Nissan of Burnaby still has some good people. Charlie for one had been honest and offered great service to me and my friends. Jarrett was polite and wise as the owner. Sadly, the facts cannot be overlooked. My overall experience with Morrey Nissan of Burnaby has been extremely negative.

Breath of Fresh Air

Another coworker of mine asked me to find the wholesale price on a 2007 Versa CVT SL + Technology package, that her friend had just purchased.

They purchased it through Charlie from Morrey Nissan of Burnaby. After hearing that name I felt slightly relieved, but I still went ahead and used one of my 4 remaining reports. it turned out they had an incredible deal, in fact, an unbeatable deal within the lower mainland. They achieved it by pitting on dealer against another, forcing them to shave down their profit margins.

The ironic thing was, Charlie only asked for a measly $200 dollar deposit, a sign that it's a deal so good, either you have to take it or you leave. If you look at our $1000 deposit, it probably a good sign that the deal had gone horribly wrong.

Yet it's comforting to know that the person I trusted is still providing decent service to other people. As for the other sales/managers, I cannot say the same.

Final Ultimatum

Here I am, awake at 1:30am, I got work in 7.5 hours, but I just couldn't sleep. I had to write this letter.

Dear Mr. Jarrett Morrey,

My name is Kenneth Yu. You may or may not remember me from two weeks ago when we picked up the black Altima 2.5S. I spoke to you briefly regarding the contradictory first payment term on our contract. I had also written a formal complaint letter mailed to both the Morrey seniors and Morrey juniors. I am sure you would have received my letter by now. If you have not, please let me know. I will send a registered mail to you or even hand-deliver it to you.

I am writing yet again with much disappointment. Today we had been notified by Nissan Canada that we are being billed for the lease on the 2-3 weeks that the car was in transport en route to the dealership. We picked up the car precisely on June 10th, 2007 and the contract was to be prepared and signed on the same date. It is unclear to me why the lease started while the car was in freight.

We had gone up the ladder from sales person Carlos to manager Ken, and eventually to manager Christina. None had offer the respect and the service we should've been entitled to as customers. This is why I am turning to you. If you cannot help us, we will be forced to look into other options. This ordeal has gone on for too long. I believe it is our best interests to settle the situation professionally and honestly.

You were unavailable by phone and the email address: jarrett@morreyauto.com given to me by the reception desk does not seem to work, therefore I am using your online email form. Please send me an reply with you direct extension when you have a solution. I will be at work tomorrow, but will become available after 430PM.

Sincerely,

Kenneth Yu

His assistant Nancy notified me at 9AM that Jarret will be out of town until Tuesday, June 26, 2007. Morrey auto just had a new online car sales. I believe the website was taken down for upgrade at the time.

Legal Contract

On June 21st, 2007, after work I was on a house-call to fix my friend's wireless network. Ann was going to have dinner with them that night as well. While I was there, Ann broke the stunning news to me. The contract that Christina didn't want to correct was in fact incorrect!

Here are some important dates:

May 13, 2007, Ann and her mom signed the first deal sheet.
May 16, 2007, Silver Altima was ordered. (according to Morrey)
May 18, 2007, Black Altima was ordered. (according to Morrey)
May 19, 2007, Ann and her mom signed the re-negotiated deal sheet.
June 9, 2007, Black Altima had arrived in dealership as promised.
June 10, 2007, Contract was signed and car picked up.

The car was in freight from the prairie regions from May 16th to June 9th.

Earlier today Ann received a statement from Nissan Canada to pay $500 dollars for the lease. The billing date as June 16th, 2007. She called Nissan to dispute that we had 1st month free according to our deal sheet the payment amount should've been the $45 processing fee only according to Christina. This was what Jarret Morrey agreed as well, despite the fact that Christina refused to change the contract.

Nissan Canada representative said that we did get 1st month free because the lease started on May 16th, 2007. On June 16th, 2007, we were already on the 2nd lease payment. On May 16th, the car started its journey from the prairie regions, it did not arrive at Morrey Nissan until 3 weeks later.

No wonder Christina was quick to grab that invoice from me, but her intentions may very well be explained by the current situation. I was furious beyond measure. How can you start charging someone on a lease when you don't even have the car in your possession?

This is completely unprofessional of Morrey Nissan of Burnaby. I tried to call Jarret Morrey directly but he was unavailable for assistance. The only thing in my mind now is to going to the media, but Jarret was a reason and polite gentleman for the brief minute we spoke. I thought I should give him a heads up.
